Experts hold mixed opinions about investing in cryptocurrency. Because crypto is a highly speculative investment, with the potential for intense price swings, some financial advisors don’t recommend people invest at all.
A 2020 EU report found that users had lost crypto-assets worth hundreds of millions of US dollars in security breaches at exchanges and storage providers. The attorney further clarified that because no action was brought against Welch, there are no restrictions on her future involvement in cryptocurrency or securities. When contacted by media outlets, the SEC declined to comment on the investigation.
It addressed investors of Welch's coin in another post, writing: "If you lost money on $HAWK, contact our firm to learn about your legal rights. Our firm represents thousands of nft and token investors in securities matters. "
In the lawsuit filed Thursday against the $HAWK creators in New York District Court, investors accused overHere Ltd, its founder Clinton So, social media influencer Alez Larson Schultz and the Tuah The Moon Foundation of fraudulently selling Welch's celebrity memecoin, per Hollywood Reporter.
The call came to an abrupt end when Welch interrupted to say that she was going to bed, a sign-off that quickly became part of her meme lore, in part because she then vanished from public view. No new episodes of Talk Tuah were released, and Welch’s social media accounts went dark. Crypto traders enthusiastically speculated that Welch could be in serious legal trouble, joking that she would go straight “tuah” jail, or at the very least “talk tuah” judge. At least one investor filed a complaint with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The suit includes a dozen plaintiffs who claim to have collectively lost more than $150,000. It alleges that the defendants “leveraged Welch’s celebrity status and connections” and “created a speculative frenzy” in order to jack up the coin’s price as trading began, luring in “first-time cryptocurrency participants” who were drawn to the project as fans of Welch. The complaint contends that Schultz and So violated securities laws, and even indicated their efforts to skirt those laws on the Spaces call. It notes, too, that $HAWK was never registered with the SEC.

Cryptocurrency was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto, which is the pseudonym used by the inventor of Bitcoin. Even though digital currency concepts existed before Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto was the first to create a peer-to-peer digital currency that reliably solved the issues facing previous digital money projects. Bitcoin was initially proposed in 2008 and launched in early 2009. Following the invention of Bitcoin, thousands of projects have attempted to imitate Bitcoin’s success or improve upon the original Bitcoin design by leveraging new technologies.
A cryptocurrency wouldn’t be very useful if anyone could just change the history of transactions to their own liking - the point of cryptocurrency is that you can be sure that your coins belong to you only and that your balances will not change arbitrarily. This is why reaching consensus is of utmost importance. In Bitcoin, miners use their computer hardware to solve resource-intensive mathematical problems. The miner that reaches the correct solution first gets to add the next block to the Bitcoin blockchain, and receives a BTC reward in return.
The very first cryptocurrency was Bitcoin. Since it is open source, it is possible for other people to use the majority of the code, make a few changes and then launch their own separate currency. Many people have done exactly this. Some of these coins are very similar to Bitcoin, with just one or two amended features (such as Litecoin), while others are very different, with varying models of security, issuance and governance. However, they all share the same moniker — every coin issued after Bitcoin is considered to be an altcoin.
